“autumn at Suma” is a haiku pillow word of admire for the sensibility of the Suma version of the Genji story. Basho emphasized that the sensibility of autumn at the Shore is more than autumn at Suma.
Sa-bi-shi-sa ya (Loneliness !)
Su-ma ni ka-chi-ta-ru (more than Suma)
Ha-ma no a-ki (autumn at the shore.)
“Loneliness! The autumn scene at the shore is more tasteful than Suma described in the Genji Story.”
