When Hokushi, who accompanied Basho from Kanazawa, left him at Matsuoka, Echizen, Bashou composed a haiku describing his folding fan.

O-o-gi hi-ki-sa-ku (tear up the folding fan)
Na-go-ri ka-na (afterthought like our farewell)
gIn Autumn, the folding fan used in summer should be abandoned. I wrote words of farewell tearing up my folding fan.h
