27. The Kurikara Pass
The Ariso sea is a well known place famed in poetry.
Basho wished to visit there but his schedule did not allow it.
He went left for kanazawa reluctantly seeking the Noto peninsula at the right hand side toward the Ariso sea.
The time is early fall when the early rice plant was coming to harvest.
You can imagine Bashou there smelling the harvest.
Wa-se no ka ya (Smell of early rice plant!)
Wa-ke-i-ru mi-gi ha (right hand side of going into)
A-ri-so-u-mi (Ariso sea)
“Smell of early rice plant! Right hand side of going into is Ariso sea.”
Season word: Wase =early
rice plant (Autumn)
