The sound of the waves of the Japan sea evokes a feeling in Basho as if his heart would break.

Basho described his wish to return them from Sado Island through the Milkyway.

A-ra-u-mi ya            (Rough sea!)

Sa-do ni yo-ko-ta-u      (laid on the Sado Island)

A-ma-no-ga-wa         (Milkyway)

“Rough sea! Milkyway lie across the Sado island.”
