The sun shone on Basho’s face reminding him that autumn had come.

Bashou described the feeling of a gentle autumn breeze.

A-ka-a-ka to                (Brightly)

Hi ha tsu-re-na-ku-mo       (The sun is insensitive)

A-ki no Ka-ze               (but I feel the autumn wind)

“Sun shines brightly insensitively but I can feel Autumn by the wind.”
