1. Fukagawa, Edo (Tokyo)

Before his journey, Basho tarnsferred his Basho-an(Bashofs hermitage) at Fukagawa to a person who had a small daughter.  The Basho-an was a dreary menfs hermitage, but Basho fantasized it ornamented by dolls since the Dollfs Festival was coming soon. Basho composed a haiku describing his deep feeling for change in the world coming also to his tiny hermitage.

ku-sa no to mo           (Even thatched cottage)

su-mi-ka-wa-ru yo zo      (in the world of a new residence)

hi-na no i-e               (a house with dolls )

gEven the thatched cottage I inhabited, It will be a house fantasized by dolls for a doll festival, as new resident has a small daughter.h
